Simple and easy beginner's guide.

Dr. Nordvig's book is exactly what it proclaims itself to be: a beginner's guide, with the emphasis on guide. He states clearly that you should take what you need from it and that you should not look on any of the older writings as a bible. There is none of that white power garbage in it either, which is a huge plus. It was exactly what I was looking for when I started my Asatru path.
