Fantastic

I'm a gigantic Akira Toriyama fan, and I've been trying to get every single thing he's ever done in his entire career. This particular manga novel was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2000, and made it over here as one of the first series serialized in Viz's Shonen Jump. This was the seacond series Toriyama made after Dragon Ball ended (Cowa! was the first). This particular work contains all of the things people expect for Toriyama....action, gags, and Toriyama's signature drawing style. However, this particular work has something that you DON'T expect from Toriyama.....social commentary! This work has an anti-war message, as well as a message of conservation......surprisingly deep, considering that this is the creator of Dragon Ball, a series not at all known for intelligence. Anyways, I highly reccomend this work for any Toriyama fan.

better than I thought.

this is from the creator of dragonball, a series I am not a fan of, so when I picked this up i wasnt expecting that much out of it. Needless to say I was mildy surprised, the story is kinda cliched but the fantastic artwork pretty much makes up for that, all in all a great little graphic novel.pick it up if you want something fun to read during math class, just dont expect anything too revolutionary p.s I would have given it 3.5 if I could have

Awsome story!!!!

I thought this book was awsome! To bad Arika Toriyama isist making anymore. If you like Dragonball you'll like this.

Cute one-shot from Dragonball creator

Akira Toriyama, the maker of Dragonball, did this short series collected in Viz's magazine, Shonen Jump. Taking place on a post-apocalyptic Earth, a down and out sheriff named Rao teams up with Beelzebub, the prince of all demons, and his sidekick Thief. They set off into the desert to find a long lost lake to help the thirsty humans and demons who are under the tyranical rule of a greedy king and his army. Rao turns out to be an retired soldier from the royal army, but is going against the system to help his people. After hyjacking a tank, they run into opposition from the army itself, and a strange band of desert bandits called the Swimmers who dress like they're going to the YMCA pool. Beelzebub has it out with a giant insect before the lake is found, and they day is saved. Sand Land ran through several issues of Shonen Jump, and is conveniently wrapped together in this cool one-shot graphic novel.
