Women Are Survivors

"Sanctuary" has helped me feel good about myself, even during the most difficult times. So many books that deal with serious problems facing women never really touch the heart of someone struggling with a serious problem. They can even make you feel worse-with their checklists of things you need to do to "fix" the problem and "inspiring" stories of women who lived to see the problem solved. Life just isn't that simplistic. Marsha Crockett writes about serious issues: live-crippling illness, rejection of mothers by their children, abortion, death of a husband, loneliness, and pornography addiction. She never takes the simplistic approach, "Pray, and it will go away." The women are real, and they helped me feel like someone truly understands the struggles of a woman when she has no promise her problem will ever disappear. Marsha Crockett emphasizes the power of faith and God to help women, but she never trivializes religion. She never suggests that we can pray to God and He will take our problems away. "Sanctuary" really helps a woman find comfort through the Bible and the true stories of other women. I have given copies to many close friends. I'm also excited to see the tips on using "Sanctuary" for small group discussions.
