Book Overview

This informative guide helps you identify and heal from childhood emotional neglect so you can be more connected and emotionally present in your life.

Do you sometimes feel like you're just going through the motions in life? Do you often act like you're fine when you secretly feel lonely and disconnected? Perhaps you have a good life and yet somehow it's not enough to make you happy. Or perhaps you drink too much, eat too much, or risk too much in an attempt to feel something good. If so, you are not alone--and you may be suffering from emotional neglect.

A practicing psychologist for more than twenty years, Jonice Webb has successfully treated numerous patients who come to her believing that something is missing inside them. While many self-help books deal with what happened to you as a child, in Running on Empty, Webb addresses the things that may not have happened for you. What goes unsaid--or what cannot be remembered--can have profound consequences that may be affecting you to this day.

Running on Empty will help you understand your experiences and give you clear strategies for healing. It also includes a special chapter for mental health professionals.

Finding what you never knew you were Missing.....and Finding your Emotions

With so much busyness and external success why is it that many people still feel "empty"? Dr. Jonice Webb has done an incredible service to shed Light on a common and yet invisible problem for so many....why do we Feel so Empty, So Often? Her deep insight after working with clients for many years led her to ASK from a New perspective. She stopped looking for what Happened, and instead wondered what Did NOT happen for these people. Working with people finding new purpose after Loss and Trauma, I was delighted to stumble upon her Book, Running on Empty, Overcome Your Childhood Emotional Neglect. As someone who was raised in a gentle alcoholic's home, adopted and also made to "disappear" at age 9 to avoid the disintegration happening....I immediately related to the "Empty Space" where my sense of emotional support and care should have been, truly that which I had just completed giving generously to my Own Five wonderful children. I deeply related and appreciated that Dr. Webb states at the outset...there is No Judgement here, just a clear look Within to understand how huge GAPS (a hallmark of Neglect) wove a patchwork inner sense of Self and how to Feel as one goes through Life. One of my delights after the wonderful in depth exploration of family patterns that leave Gaps, was to discover the Great Thing in the 2nd half of the book - Emotions, they are FOR You, you Deserve to feel and understand those feelings - this was truly a GameChanger for me in my own Life and also in the work I do as a Transformation Life Coach. I have used this book both for myself and with clients and believe that is has great value for both those who Lived W/O Emotional Richness and for those who work helping us! Dr. Jonice Webb also has a sequel....Running on Empty No More; which I intend to explore and apply in 2020.

Game-changer.

This book gave me insight into a world I could never have imagined. It has examples of emotional neglect and parallel examples of healthy parenting. Substantial and practical but full of warmth and compassion. It’s one of a select few books that has truly changed my life.
