This approach reaches its culmination in an appendix that shows several basic database schemas - that is, blueprints for the fundamental ways in which different types of data relate, and thus blueprints for designing one's databases.
When you finish this book, you will actually be able to write a database--that is, if you work through all the examples. And who wouldn't work through all the example programs in a computer book if they really wanted to know how to use a program? The examples that you work through are also on the included CD-ROM, so if you get lost, you can see how the database should be properly written. The database on the CD-ROM is a fully functioning database. By referring to it, you can learn how a database should work. I knew nothing about databases when I bought this book, and now I am writing databases. I refer to this book constantly, and rarely refer to the Microsoft manuals included with Access.
