From Linda Baxter, author Sasha's story is based on the real life experience of my husband's father. Born in Russia during Stalin's reign, his mother plans to smuggle him out of the country to safety. Despite the cold bleak backdrop of a Russian winter, Sasha is surrounded by loving friends and family. He does not want to leave his home. And if he goes, his mother will certainly be sent to the gulag. This chapter book was written for readers at the fourth grade level. Younger children love listening to the story and children as old as 12 will enjoy the novel. It is part of a series of books about Sasha. For teachers.
