From the New York Times bestselling author of Rama Revealed and 2001: A Space Odyssey comes a thrilling new collaborative novel, a fast-paced tale of ideas and near-future imagination about the race... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I read this book looking for escapism sci-fi, and instead found a book grounded in science FACT and having a great plot to boot.I consulted with several geoscientists and seismic experts, and they consider the book to be useful in teaching seismic theory, even though the actual prediction concepts may not be provable.Overall, an excellent read - I would like to find more books as good as this.
A Great Story!

I don't know what the reviewers who gave this bad reviews were reading, but this is a well constructed, well written novel.I believe that some of the reviewers were simply reacting to the genre not the story. Maybe, they were forced to read the book for an assignment. This was best Clarke collaboration, I've read to date. It is a shame that there will be no further works coming from the pen of Mike McQuay.Make your own decision. It seems as if the reviews fall to two extremes. The readers have either loved or hated the book.I loved it.I would recommed it to everyone.
One of the best books I've ever read

This book was amazing! The descriptions that Clarke and McQuay give the reader in this book are phenomenal, you really get to know the characters and what they go through during the course of the story. Many of the events that take place could very well happen and the authors let you know what it would be like during an EQ. But since this is science fiction they do have some far fetched ideas aboutabout a drug to control your emotions, or having a chip implanted in yoru head so you could interact with a computer. These things aside the storyline was great and I really recommend it to any fan of Arthur C. Clarke.
A great book..one that everyone should read!!!

This book is great, the characters come alive and you feel their pain and their joy. The story I think is one that sweeps you up and is quite realistic(however it would be in the future). I like how Clarke has made some odd-ball comments (like the United States of America and Islam) but it makes you think and that's important.
A MUST READ for ACC fans!!!

I thought the book was WONDERFUL!! It seemed like pure Sci Fi. Clarke with McQuay did much better than Clarke and Lee! (read this the the first 2 Rama books and you will see what I mean) You have to read this book if you love Sci Fi and reading!!
