Guiding the reader through the people, places, and events from the Renaissance period of art, this book provides fast facts on the artists, and provides and easy-to-follow timeline that puts vital cross-cultural events from the period into context. 200 color illustrations.
Renaissance art is a complex web of names: painters, sculptors, composers, kings and queens, princes and princesses, bankers and all sorts of people who had been involved in the complicated artistic scene of renaissance Europe. David Boyle does a great job organizing these assortment of names into categories and makes it easy for the reader to follow and learn the flow of history. The drawings in the tinmeline are quite funny and help the reader a lot to remember the facts afterwards. My only concern is that other that the photographic credits, there are no references given and some of the less famous facts are hard to confirm without propoer citation of the references.
