Athens is still burning and Governor Vera Selvedge was determined that it would not happen again without a response in kind.An intellectually and morally bankrupt central government had unleashed a nuclear frenzy then died in the radioactive ashes of the capital. Many of the various nuclear weapons crews deserted or refused the orders. Enough complied that our country's own weapons nearly finished what the rising the dead had started.Deserting pilots and later submarine crews gifted Georgia with the mixed blessing of nuclear weapons. In this book Georgia is getting organized for full scale war, integrating surviving US forces with the State Defense Forces under the overall command of Combined Ops South. They are the Georgia version of the Joint Chiefs and include civilian members responsible for production and agriculture. Under Governor Selvedge, they are directing the war effort and preparing for the Final Offensive.Meanwhile, the governor has ordered a massive extermination campaign against marauders and bandits.CDC is put into the fight and at their 'Nightmare Facility' we learn that winning can be almost as dreadful as losing.PTSD and mass insanity threaten human viability. This war exists in a time box. We will win it soon or lose it.This all unfolds as a series of desperate battles are fought against increasingly desperate marauders and zombies who seem to come out of nowhere, culminating in the battle of annihilation at Lithia Springs, Georgia.
