Firefighter Red Adair is the subject of this biography which moves from the Texas oil patches, to the 800-foot Devil's Cigarette Lighter fire in Algeria, to the giant well fires of the Awaz field in Iran, the sabotaged wells of Sumatra and Libya and the Piper Alpha explosion in the North Sea.
Great Down To Earth True Story About An Amazing Man
Published by BOOKWORM #1 , 2 years ago
Fascinating well written down to earth true story. I couldn't put the book down. Interestingly explained inside details in layman's terms of all the facets of oil drilling world wide. This SELF MADE MAN who became a true expert and hero is remarkable in his achievements. His incredible daring and attention to detail when faced in person/on the spot with horrific oil well fires that are out of control are well written about and the reader is right there with him as he tackles the problems and succeeds. A rags to riches tale of a rugged man who overcame poverty, found his destiny within himself, pursued his inner self and lived life to the fullest.
Well done

After personally knowing Red over several years and hearing some of his stories directly, I found the book to tell the story accurately, of course covering much more of his life. The book is well written and true to the character, not leaving out some of his less admirable acts and traits as well as his good humor and enjoyment of people in the "patch". I was happy with the bookseller and with the condition of my "collectible" copy of the book.
Great bio and adventure story

Red Adair's personal history is as fascinating as his long resume as an oil well firefighter. Also recommend "Into the Inferno: The Story of Red Adair." His battle with the Piper Alpha Fire and especially The Devil's Cigarette Lighter are especially thrilling.
