Book Overview

In the American Civil War there were more than 10,000 engagements, from the greatest of battles, like Gettysburg, to many obscure and almost forgotten skirmishes. Battles of the Civil War focuses on six major confrontations, from the opening salvos of the war at Fort Sumter to the carnage at Petersburg and the collapse of the South. Following the course of each of the actions, author William C. Davis paints a picture of heroism and horror that is graphically supported by a selection of rare historic photographs and artworks.

Great civil war collectors reference .

This set of 3 books is a good reference for history buffs or collectors. It is fully illustrated and goes into great detail in reference to dress and equipment.

a good basic source of information

Final book of the Rebels & Yankees series. Having covered the men and commanders it is only appropriate that the battlefields on which they faught and died be covered. This book does the job quite well as well as completes the trilogy . Well illustrated and well written. The maps are most informative. My only complaint is that it only covers Mobile bay as a sample naval battle even though there were others just as significant to the conflict. A good book to have for those interested in this subject.

Excellent

This is an excellent book, full of illustrations, rare pictures and excellent profiles of thirteen of the most important battles during the Civil War. I would recommend this book to Civil War buffs.

Great Book

This book is really good because it uses very detailed maps and pictures of relics found at the battlefields. The description of what happened during each battle is written so well you feel as though your actually there. I would recomend this book to anyone who is interested in the Civil War.
