Relates the causes, events, and aftermath of the brief battle in 1851 between slave owners and escaped slaves led by William Parker. This description may be from another edition of this product.
Rebellion at Christiana by Margaret Bacon is a record of one of the early skirmishes of the Civil War. It relates the story of a short but influential battle between slaveholders, who have come to the Pennsylvania/Maryland area to recover runaway slaves, and the abolitionists and slaves who refuse to obey the Fugitive Slave law. William Parker was a slave leader whose own story is documented. In school we tend to believe the Civil War started with the shot over Ft. Sumter, SC, but battles had been fought for at least a decade prior to that event. Very interesting account of the rebellion and an interesting book.
