This concise pocket book contains everything you need to know on a daily basis for the psych wards -- DSM-IV criteria, clinical presentations, differential diagnoses, medications. Every psych resident at my hospital has a copy. Also very useful at the student level. The first chapter contains templates for a psych H & P, progress note, and orders.

The pocket guide necesseity for psyciatry rotations/residency

This is the low tech, no batteries needed guide to psychiatry that is handy for learning on rounds, or 3am on call reassurance. This guide give you small blurbs on the DSM IV TR diagnosis criteria of all major psyciatric diagnosis, and tips on H & P/psychiatric consult note, and a mental status exam. Perfect quick reference for the medical student

This is the perfect book for the medical student, and i think over half of my classmates carried this book. I did not pick it up until i became a resident psychiatrist, and at 3am in the morning on call this book saved my bottom. Included in this small text is a nice breakdown of the first interview, mental status exam, great for the begining student or the tired resident. Also, quick reference to many diagnosis, as well as comentary on treatment. A great companions to this is the pocket psychiatric drug book. This book is inexpensive, but a great quick reference. A must have for any Psyciatry rotation.
