A Good Starter

I found this to be one of the better programming books in the world for those with and without experience. Unlike most programming books I've read before, this book doesn't get carried away with telling all the sort of names of different Visual Basic text. It also doesn't go overkill on explaining new material. The book has great design- the colored pictures make the book easy on the eyes and the pages aren't completely covered in text. I also liked how the writers did not split up the example program's text to explain it piece by piece. They keep the entire example program together so it's easier to see how different chunks of text effect the output of the program. What I like most about the design is how there are many simple example programs that help explain what's going on. The book doesn't bring in previous programs and make them even more complex and harder to understand. I found it very easy to experiment. Now on to the bad things of the book. Most chapters have an complex program at the very end of them. I don't know why the writers bothered to put these in the chapters when a beginning programmer will probably not understand them until the end of the book. I also didn't like their explanation about object-oriented programming which is extrememly important to understand if a programmer is going to go on to learn about Java and C++. The book never showed a simple example program on the concept like it usually does. I also wish the book went more into depth about controlling more advance errors from the user's input. The book is definitely not perfect, but when judging it to other visual basic books, it is very good. If you have experience, then you'll probably fly through this book. If you don't have any experience, chapters will flow smoothly and you won't be overwhelmed but there might be a few bumps in the road.
