Superb Review for FAA Knowledge Test

The ASA Test Prep provides a comprehensive review of the current (published) questions used by the FAA in their knowledge tests. The questions are conveniently organized into easy to digest chapters that include a summary explanation of the material followed by all the FAA questions pertinent to the subject -- complete with explanations of the correct answer to each question. Any student pilot preparing for an FAA knowledge test would benefit from an opportunity to review ALL the published questions prior to taking the test for two reasons: First, familiarity with the questions helps to quell the inevitable "test gitters;" and second, there are a number of tricky questions that need to be carefully reviewed in order to avoid OBVIOUS mistakes. I used this test prep prior to ever taking a flying lesson, and I passed the private pilot airplane test with flying colors!!!

light on explanation, fine to pass the exam

Buy this book if you're looking to pass the FAA exam, but not if you're trying to understand the material. The authors do a great job of researching and recreating the FAA test questions and they present them in a concise and organized manner. But if you really want to understand the material, you'll need to refer to the FAA book, Pilot's Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge: FAA-H-8083-25. I would buy them both, one to learn the material, the other to pass the test.

I think it works very well

This book is a great tool for preparing for the knowledge test. It sums up major points in each question category (using very good explanations) and asks actual FAA questions complete with answers. Like the previous reviewer said, this book is primarily for the PPL but includes some questions for the other ratings.

Private Pilot Test prep

This book is extremely helpful for passing the FAA exam. I highly recommend it!
