Its unusual format, with voice note transcriptions prefacing the chapters, brings added poignancy. Kevin's narration as he records, then expands on his emotions following the heartbreaking loss of his dear wife Shirley to suicide, is impactful. Many will find themselves in tune with his feelings around grief, especially his depiction of the first year, which is inevitably so hard to bear.
