Great textbook for someone unfamiliar to Power Systems
Published by Thriftbooks.com User , 16 years ago
I'm an Electrical Engineering graduate. But my school's program was geared to the semiconductor and circuit design market in Dallas. I never had a Power Systems class. So when I got a job working on the power distribution at a major chemical manufacturer (in Houston), I had to play catch-up. A co-op working in that department suggested this book, as it was used in one of her classes. This textbook does a good job of covering many topics that are needed in "every day" engineering. Most chapters begin with a case-study that is relevant to developments in politics and design. For example, one chapter begins with a case study of different transmission tower designs: pros, cons, applicability. This book did not, however, get into the physics of the systems. I had to look to other texts for in-depth analysis of symmetrical components, rotating equipment, relaying, etc. In conclusion: this is a really good book as an introduction to many relevant topics in electrical power engineering.

Although this book is translated into Chinese, I like to read this book. Because I'm a collage student, this book is necessary for me. I study electronic, and this book is my best choice. Such as transformer, transmission line, power flow...ect, it's full and great to people who want to study the more power system. It's not hard to understand.
