Exploring the relationship between contemporary art, culture, and society, this book offers non-specialists a guide to the general structure and focus of Postmodern critical discourse, preparing them... This description may be from another edition of this product.
I took an Art Criticism class from Howard Risatti back in 2001 when I was obtaining my BFA at Virginia Commonwealth University. This book was one of the required texts for the class. As I read this book (which is a heavy read despite the size) and digested what "art" was in the modern sense I was awakened. I decided that the contemporary art world was not a business that I wanted to be a part of because of the commodification of art (and the artist). I am now making a living as a professional artist on my own terms because of it. I think this book should be a requirement for anyone pursuing a career as a fine artist.
I enjoyed the content of the book but not the book design

This is great book that helped me in my Pro seminar class. The language can be bit confusing at first for those of you who don't like to read about philosophy. It's all mostly theories about Post Modern Art. The author suggest great artist comparisons too. Overall a good buy.
