This is an excellent book. Whether you are a beginner or, like myself, one who needs to brush up on his chess strategy, this book is for you. It starts with an understanding of the pieces and their values and continues with game strategies, neatly ordered into opening, middlegame and endgame approaches. Along the way, Ms shipman also provides some very helpful exercises that make you think like a chessplayer. Also, she explains chess notation and uses it throughout to explain the various strategies. This is very useful to those wo wish to follow the chess columns in the newspapers. All-in-all, good value for the money.
