The Canary Wharf tower at the former West India Docks has become the unofficial symbol of the new Docklands, and Poplar is now the most clearly identifiable spot in the whole London landscape. The volume is devoted to the historic parish of All Saints stretching from Limehouse to the River Lea and encompassing the old maritime centre of Blackwall and the whole of the Isle of Dogs. Striking for its modern buildings the area has a diverse and rich history, its massive docks and warehouses made it a thriving commercial area. All this has now gone, and that makes this volume and its photos - many of buildings now demolished - all the more interesting.
