It's been five years since Julia Griffin's life changed when she opened her heart to Kurt Weston. She wouldn't dream of changing the outcome, not when her young son Nick smiles up at her. Raising him alone isn't easy, and it hurts to realize Kurt chose not to be a part of their lives. Or did he? Now a chance encounter raises questions that aren't easy to answer--and rekindles feelings Julia thought she'd buried long ago.
This a book I literally picked up by it's cover, and it was well worth it. Julia Griffin is a woman of secrets and heartache, and has been healing since the birth of her son. Realistically, her life is still not perfect, but safe and sheltered. Shockingly, when Julia's only lover reappears, she is thrown for a loop and has to make some tough decisions as to whether to take some chances with her life. Kurt, her lover, is appealing, but after he finds out about the son he never knew he had (or did he?), he has to reevaluate things himself and his reactions make his character seem more fleshed out and less perfect. My main reason for leaving out a star was that it was hard at the start of the book to see why Kurt kept chasing after Julia at first when she seemed to be such a cold fish. I thought at the beginning he must have had a monumental ego who couldn't take no for an answer. Later on, Kurt was more sweet. Except for the custody resolution, which was a little farfetched for me, this was a good afternoon read. Julia's past later made her character's actions more believable, and was an appealing heroine once the walls came down.
