Have you ever heard someone say,"I've got the picture to prove it.".

Hal Buell has done it again! I did a review of another book of his,"Bush Photo Oops" on March 10,2005,which I enjoyed just as much as this book. Instead of limiting his humor to one person,Hall takes aim at all kinds of politicians. While the captions that the author are hilarious, don't overlook the real captions which he has included at the back of the book. The humor is even greater when both captions are read together. He covers photos from President Bush to Eisenhower in 1952.The layout is great, and as you are finished reading one page ,simply by turning the page you are treated to another gem. When you read the caption and have a laugh, you ask yourself how could a serious statement be made on such a ridiculous shot; then go to the back, and there you get it. I remember the episode shown on page 73.President was at the Grand Ol' Opry in 1974.Roy Acuff,an excellent Yo-Yo player, had the President on stage and was showing him "how to do it".The author puts a completely different, and humorous, slant on the photo. Then again, after looking at page 19,turn to page75,and maybe a good caption might be;"Boy,we sure know how to enjoy the seashore!".Or how about the picture on of the First Lady sitting on Mr.T's lap giving him a kiss on the forehead. How about this for a caption."Who said,I could get into trouble over this?". This book is a lot of fun and I bet the author has thousands more like them and let's hope he shares more with us. In the meantime, maybe I'll clip out some pictures from the papers and mags and have some fun making my own captions. After all Hal Buell has shown us how to do it.

Fun

First and foremost, I will warn you: Relatively few of the photos are funny in themselves (okay, that priceless shot of Hillary on the cover is an exception). The little captions underneath ARE pretty funny. We have Nixon wiping some lady's windshield, George Bush Sr. holding a hysterical baby, Bill Clinton and his bare-legged "advisors," various pitfalls of Gerald Ford, Nixon and Elvis, Hillary, Powell, Buddy and Socks. (Yeah, the cat and the dog appear too)Democrats may initially not want to buy this book, given the priceless Hillary pic on the cover. But this pic is there because it's the best one in the book, not because it's Hillary. Both parties receive equal hilarity, based on their unflattering moments rather than their politics (there is one repeat offender who is a running joke). Add that Buell inserts his dry comments throughout the book (he doesn't think politicians should hold babies, or as he puts it, "get into cute contests") which makes this a funny short read.

Hilarious!!!

This is a really funny book.ALL of the photos are real. The one on the cover is a time when Hillary Clinton had trouble with a microphone cord. This book shows famous and not-so-famous scenes of US presidents, vice presidents, presidential candidates, mayors and other politicians. Gerald R Ford falling down the stairs of Air Force One, Nancy Reagan kissing Mr. T, Jimmy Carter slipping on ice, Nixon shaking hands with Elvis, Nelson Rockefeller giving his audience the finger.Lyndon B. Johnson showing off a scar from his gall bladder surgery.(possible inspiration for the scene in "Forrest Gump" where Forrest shows L.B.J. his gunshot wound in the but-tocks.)There are many other pictures in this book and each picture has a humorous caption. In the back of the book it has an explanation of the actual situation on how the scenes in the photos took place.I highly reccommend this book!!!!!!!

This Beautimous Picturebook is dandy

Being someone who has been made fun of everyday since the spill, I for one, appreciate this book, thank you very much. Last week at the library a bunch of teenie-bops kept laughing and pointing until I cried unbelievable. Oh it was very hurtsome. I was about to go into my old standby friend, sticks and stones, then I realized that they were laughing at the picturebook and not me. Thank Gosh. Since that time I have purchased the picture book and the comedy jokes from inside the booklet keep everyone mindful that if big fancy schmancy famous people can look bad, we all can. And then I told Winnie Hossenfuss, that she wasn't so perfect after all. And her Corn-Corn Bean-Beans casserole too!

Nonpartisan! Painful! Hilarious!

Democrats may cringe at the picture of Hillary on the cover, but I can assure them that the Republicans take their drubbings, too, in this collection of incredibly awful takes on political photo opportunities. Even without the captions, the pictures represent what most of us fear the most from roving photographers. (I am reminded of one bad picture of me that appeared in a local paper once.) You will feel for every one of the politicians in here: from Truman to George W. Bush, each has been caught looking their worst. And when all is said and done, I think you go away feeling grudging respect and sympathy for these men and women of all political persuasions who live at the mercy of the photojournalist corps. The more you look and laugh, the more human you realize these people are. And, if my Democratic heart can go out for George W. Bush's roasting in these pages, maybe there is a cure for Hillary Hating in humor collections such as this one. Put this in the bathroom. It will be handy there.
