Book Overview

Thoroughly revised and updated in this second edition, Perspectives on Marriage is an ideal text for courses in the theology and spirituality of marriage. The new edition of this multidisciplinary reader features twenty new articles and represents the best of contemporary perspectives on marriage and sexuality. It is comprehensive and flexibly designed to accommodate a variety of approaches, from the strictly historical and canonical to the sociological, psychological, and ministerial. Striking a balance between solid theological material and stimulating readings on current issues, the essays explore marriage in its historical context; the meanings and transitions of marriage; attitudes toward sexuality; communication, conflict, and change; overcoming stereotypes; divorce and annulment; the spirituality of marriage; and interreligious perspectives on marriage. The volume is enhanced by the editors' introductions and discussion questions. Rich, provocative, and challenging, Perspectives on Marriage, 2/e is the most extensive and up-to-date reader of its kind.

Great addition

This is a superb book. Whilst I do not agree with everything written, it definitely opens your mind and allows you to truly esteem to a proper understanding of the sacrament of marriage. My fave articles are the Lawler and Cooke articles. MARRIAGE IS AWESOME! This book made me understand it a great deal more! THANKS WARREN AND SCOTT!

A great college text for Christian Marriage.

This is the fifth semester I have used this text in my Marriage and Family course. Each semester I like it better. Wile difficult for the younger student, Perspectives allows the serious student to stretch his/her thinking on marriage in the Christian framework. This book is a must read by any Marriage and Family teacher at a Catholic college or university, and should be included in every college library.
