Organizational Integrity: How to Apply the Wisdom of the Body to Develop Healthy Organizations

All around us, we see living systems in plants, animals, and human beings. Our environment is alive, vibrant, and full of innate wisdom. Even the stars and planets speak in the language of ancient folklore to those who have ears to hear. Our very lives depend on this interdependence and on the myriad connections that surround us. Nonetheless, many people experience organizations as inert, bureaucratic, inflexible obstacles to innovation and human initiative. People have struggled for years under the weight of apathy in organizations such as large school systems, corporations, and government agencies such as FEMA.

Organizational Integrity attempts to reclaim and reconcile organizational dynamics with living systems. The wisdom found in human organs, minerals, planets, and even sacred geometry is used to reinvent organizations. Organizations are supposed to serve, and their forms and structures should mirror the living systems of those who have come together with common purpose. We need to change our ideas of organizations and establish a new paradigm so that future organizations will be worthy of the people in them.

Dr. Finser makes the case that we need a new ecology of organizations, and that now is time for a new revolution that creates dynamic, living organizations by the people and for the people. Moreover, he shows us how to achieve this seemingly impossible task by "organ-izing" organizations. Just as democracy has transformed much of the world, through the genius of the human body we can transform organizations into living systems that serve and protect human interests.

Here is a truly unique approach to the age-old process of bringing people together in healthy, effective organizations to better the world in which we live.

For anyone who works in groups and organizations this book holds great insights for making the whole organization and the individuals within it healthier. It can guide in accomplishing group purposes with greater clarity and harmony. It is well written and accessible. It will also challenge many current ways of viewing and working with the life of both large and small groups. The accompanying artwork is magnificent. I highly recommend this book.

Graduate school summer course based on the book

In this course, we were initiated into the conceptual world of organ-oriented imagery and their association with dynamics found in business, school settings, and organizations in general. Not unlike learning a new language, it involved acknowledgement and recognition of human qualities of both personality and soul, as well as identification of the inherent biological functions of bodily organs. We were offered instruction into learning how to discern a type, to recognize aspects and relational qualities, in order to assist us in categorizing and applying knowledge of body part function, soul quality associations, as well as practical and spiritual applications. All together, we discovered a new way to view organizations, both creatively and ultimately healing, as in preventative medicine. We learned how to make organizations whole and healthy by applying the wisdom of the human body into professional and business settings. The concept is simple, with this new paradigm, we may proactively assess social dynamics, the flow of information, production and output, reaction to stressors, and outright attacks of dis-ease. The essence of typing is to recognize ourselves and others, to learn how to achieve balance within oneself, and to work on one's own aspects in order to create equilibrium. The key to healthy organizations is self-awareness and self-control, which requires consciousness, and contant monitoring, addressing, and tending. Torin Finser's book shows us how to do that, for ourselves, and for the sake of our fellow human beings, and for the organizations and social structures we work for and within.
