A big time preparation help for certification exam

It is a complement to what I learned on the job in reviewing all the topics covered in the exam. It could be handy on the job to verify and possibly improve the procedures you have implemented, especially if the procedures have been in place for a while and you have upgraded recently.

Good enough for exam

I just passed with 86% (basic) , 80% (Mastery) . I have no DBA experience , trying to get a job. I think there were maybe 2-3 questions max not covered in the book . The questions are kind of tough but if you use commom sense and process of elimination you do fine . You have to really dig into the book and memorise chapters and even then only common sense can save you on many of the questions . For example if you see some choice that you just don't recognise ever reading about that's probably not the correct choice . Not guaranteed but I think it will work 8 out of 10 times . I also bought the Sybex book and this one is definitely better. The reason is it's better organised and not cluttered with too many details which prove to be not useful for the exam . I know there's someone who wrote a Sybex review saying that book flows better , better organised but I don't know how someone can be so way off . This book is better for understanding the basics and concepts stick to your head better . However , the Sybex book I think will cover those 2 or 3 questions not covered in this one .Regardless , if you want to be more thorough just read the online documentation which is free in addition to this book . No point over-studying as no amount of studying can help you for some of the screwy questions . The book is far from perfect , some sections the author is meandering around saying nothing really , probably because he doesn't really understand the concept himself . If you've read previous certification books you know what I'm talking about . But majority of the book is crystal clear .

Passed first time

I took the OCP Oracle9i Database: Fundamentals I exam last Wednesday and passed with high marks: Basic section - 93% and Mastery section - 87%. Although this book has grammatical errors, it completely covers all the topics for the exam. If you have 1 to 2 years experience as an Oracle DBA, you will find this book is all you need to pass the exam the first time. Thank you Jason and Sudheer.

The best source for OCP Exam preperation and Reference

I read many books written on the subject of Oracle DBA and Oracle Tools OCP exams. I read those written by Jason Couchman for previous versions. The new version (for Oracle9i) for OCP DBA Exam I written by Couchman and Marisetti is a vast improvement from previous ones. There are no more those glaring technical inconsistencies that were there in previous editions. I used this book for my 9i OCP exam and found that book covers everything asked in the exam. The topics they covered, the questions, and depth they went into each of the topics covered everything asked in the exam. Apparently they seemed to have the inside information from Oracle corporation on what areas the questions will be asked in the OCP exam. There are some grammatical errors and few confusing solutions to the exercises but the rest of the book can be highly recommendable. Of all the books on this subject I have seen so far this book may be the better one. I now use this book as reference and no longer as an exam guide.

Great Book

I recently read this book and then took the Fundamentals I exam and must say that this book covered all of the topics that are on the exam. I found myself to be well prepared for the exam and would highly recommend it to anyone who is looking to pass this exam.
