Always consult with your professor prior to purchasing any text books, especially outdated ones. I was at first timid buying a 2007 released book in 2022, but I’m happy with the purchase. Even though the interventions could be prioritized better with the care plans seen today, they still relate to the overall patient goal. Still, you can’t beat the price. Amazon is a competitor though, so be careful how much you spend if you’re buying more than a 7 year old book, but you won’t find good as quality as you will here!
Great Book for Nursing Students!!

I love this book. It has everything in one spot. It goes into great detail. It covers Biomedical AND psychosocial. It covers children through the elderly. Best of all, it has those darned Rationales and references that are such a nightmare to look up. This book took me from a student who did mediocre care plans to one whose "nursing process papers" are always used as the "example" the class should follow. It is worth every single penny and then some. Unless you love care plans/the nursing diagnosis, or whatever your school calls it, do yourself a favor and get this book.
better than the other one

just got this a couple of days ago, last ed. rated highly by others in my class (RN program) and since Im on summer break, I waited for this one. Those of us who've been up till midnight the night before clinicals will like that this one is organized, it gives what you need in a logical place. The other books I've used have you hunt back and forth for defining char. and outcomes etc. (see page ### see diag. ##.## etc) but this one has everything right there, you can look up by Sx, by medical Dx or alphabetically by NANDA; try to get it early enough so you have time to look at the first chapter, it explains where and how to find what you need quickly, worth the $40 in time saved alone.

Had to write my first care plan/case study. I have no idea what I would have done without this book. Making a nursing diagnosis and care planning for a student nurse can be a complex process. This book just brings it all together. It includes not only the nursing diagnosis, but rationales for nursing interventions and outcomes. Other students in the class have purchased other Care Plan books, however, most of the have been asking to look at mine. Two of them have already ordered their own. I will continue to recommend this book to everyone .
Best value for the money

Of the five or so diagnosis handbooks that I have purchased, this one is the one that I reference the most when doing care plans and research - the least expensive too. For the money, this is the most helpful book that you will find.
Nursing Diagnosis Handbook: A guide to planning care

This book is a must have for every nurse! It is fabulous for many reasons. One, Ackley and Ladwig begin the text by a section, 112 pages long, of medical diagnosis accompanied by the most common nursing diagnosis that the pt would have. This is very helpful to get you thinking and to point out potential diagnosis to keep your eyes out for when treating a patient. Later the authors go into detail on each NANDA diagnosis. The definition, defining characteristics, related factors, and suggested outcomes are described. Next, interventions are discussed with the scientific rational in italics for very smooth and continuos reading. Interventions are subdivided into geriatrics, infants/children, as well as the average adult patient. Home care interventions are included along with client/family teaching tips - very helpful. To top it off, the authors included at the end of each diagnosis web sites for more information as well as further references. This book is compact, light weight, and includes a wealth of information helpful in any care plan. I highly recommend it.
