This book is a wonderful choice for kids who are afraid of dogs, those who have other fears, or just those looking for a good read. I've used it in K-3 storytime and found it effective on many different levels. The story is engaging, the characters are believable, and the ending satisfies. In addition to dealing with the nature of courage, it can spark discussions on both sibling and animal relationships and can easily lend itself to a lesson on how to approach strange dogs! Children are instantly entranced and you may expect collective gasps when Daniel and Bandit wind up locked in the bathroom together. A very satisfying picture book that children of all ages will love!

What a cool book! Pitzer knows what kids think and feel, especially when it comes to having a dog come to live in the same house with you when you're afraid of dogs! With humor and common sense, she is sure to win over the most reluctant of kids and turn them into dog lovers.
