This is a wonderful resource for both the beginning bible reader and the Hebrew scholar. Dr. Sailhamer helps you follow the meaning of the text of Scripture. It is presented in a very clear, readable manner. I have had the book for years and reference it all the time. I continue to buy more copies to give away as gifts.
Handy Helper

This is a very handy commentary using the NIV. Good and clear introductions, succint comments and a well produced book - white paper and beautiful print. I have found it especially helpful for the Old Testament, to have it with me in study and discussion groups. It gives a sense of the flow of the Bible story and has many useful charts, maps and diagrams - really like these as someone who is taught better by diagrams. If you are starting out or like me an older believer, this is a worthwhile investment, and good value.
Great Reader/Reference

Sailhamer provides concise, sound commentary on the Scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. My husband and I have read this book for enjoyment as well as used it as a reference for specific passages. We strongly recommend this book to any new Christian reading through the Scriptures for the first time as well as the well-read Bible student.
Big Punch in Small Book

I was assigned this book in Seminary and instantly fell in love with it. It gives a good through indepth overview of each of the books of the Bible that will not only help the scholor but the novice and searcher as well. I had the oppertunity to take a class from Dr. Sailheimer and now know why the book is as good as it is. You will be blessed by meeting the man as well as reading his book.
Significant Information From A Small Book

This is a commentary to tuck into your brief case and carry about with you. The NIV Compact Bible Commentary the best short commentary I have ever used.Though I give it five stars, Sailhammer's commentary is not even. His treatment of the Torah is the highwater mark of the book. The New Testament by contrast seems hurried and not as full as his treatment of the Hebrew Scriptures. This should be no surprise given his speciality in the Hebrew Scriptures.I have given away a number of copies to people who have an interest in biblical interpretation.
