Still Using the1986 ed. of this New Jersey Trip Guide

We are still using our 1986 edition of this book! This is one rugged little guide book! Our copy has been in use for 24 years and is dog-eared and stained, but has not come apart. Must have used better spine glue back then. It's still one of the best day outing guides to the historical, artistics, and shopping sites in New Jersey and nearby areas of neighboring states. Things have changed over the years, many upgrades of the cited locations, mostly in terms of visitor facilities and care of grounds and buildings. BTW - The Elizabethtown Flea Market has grown into an astoundingly large setup - be prepared with water and snacks and WEAR COMFORTABLE SHOES! It now takes a couple days to go through the whole market in high season (May 1st - Labor day) and good luck getting a parking place - it draws folks from all over the world. There are numerous changes in the parks & trails situation in all these years, but the older natural areas are still the most beautiful.

What a great find!

When I moved to NJ I joined a newcomers' club and offered to help run a Daytrips group. This book(including its various future editions)was our constant companion and ever ready reference. It also worked for the many house guests that suddenly appeared now that we lived near NYC. We had a great time visiting many of the sites Barbara had previewed for us...and her observations were right on. Note: She does advise that you check dates and time as these change. When I moved to GA I brought it with me and I often lend it to friends and friends of friends planning to visit NYC or "The Garden State". They are always delighted and wonder why we don't have such a resource for GA.
Still the best

New format looks good for this old favorite. The 10th edition, published by Rutgers Univ. Press, may be a little milder in its view of NJ outings than previous editions, but the book still has a "voice". There are many new entries, quite a few of the short, factual variety so newcomers to the state should find plenty to do. Earlier editions had better cross-references and indexes, but this one has better driving directions and includes websites for almost all entries. Out of state entries like th Crayola Factory or Hyde Park are now found at the end of each chapter, so once you get used to this you know where to find them. STill the best alll around guidebook to New Jersey.
Excellent guidebook for short trips in the area.

When I first moved to NJ I found this book by chance and found it an invaluable guide to getting acquainted with the area. When visitors come, I use this book as a reference guide to help in planning things to do. The book is very well organized and contains all phone numbers necessary for getting any further information you might need before your visit. I've bought the last four editions because the author is constantly updating the information in the book.
