This is a British novel, but it has an American heart. Its American characters and jokes are so accurate and perceptive (and funny!) that you'd think Sue Margolis is American, or at least has spent a lot of time here. I teach creative writing and, while this isn't going to win any literary prizes, and isn't really the kind of thing I usually read, it's actually a textbook exercise in great novel construction. Really beautifully done. I'm looking forward to seeing this author's next novel.
Delightful, charming, and endlessly entertaining...

"Neurotica" is one of the most witty and funny books I've read. Not only that, it was completely believable. From her husband's obsession with his health, to her mother's equally obsessed stalker, what's a girl to do that commit adultry with three devastatinly gorgeous men? I'm certain you'll enjoy this book, especially if you've read books by Marian Keyes and Isabel Wolff. It's wickedly funny, and littered with yummy men that all married women fantasize about.
Bedroom farce for the late 90s

As the title suggests, this novel explores the oft-interrelated themes of neurosis and sex -- and does so quite hilariously. The plot moves at warp speed, with bizarre twists that somehow work and many bust-a-gut-laughing, priceless scenes. The author has a nice ear for the psychological quirks this is not a book for the prissy or squeamish. There are explicit sex scenes (if you find words like clitoris unromantic, you won't like them) and the dialogue is full of expletives, body parts, and language not fit for those under age 18. And a large part of the humor revolves around sex. Also, the book is very heavy on British slang, which can be distracting if you're not used to it. I heartily enjoyed the book, with that vaguely guilty pleasure I get from reading Cosmo in the supermarket line or downing a big bag of M & Ms in one sitting.
A laugh riot!

I have not read a book this funny in a long time! Sue Margolis is a brilliantly funny author. I hope to see much more of her work very soon.
