This book was a textbook I used in college. Another reviewer said it doesn't say much about the Netsilik today. Yes, because this is a book about the Netsilik of old, which is what it is supposed to be. The reason this book is so interesting to some people is because the Netsilik lived so far north, so they had much less interaction with white people compared to most tribal entities, giving more of an untouched study. These people lived without wood or metal for countless generations in Arctic conditions. This book explains how this could happen, facsinating for some people, like me. This is the only textbook from college I re-read. Twice. The Netsilik Eskimo, so different and amazing they are worth reading about and Balikci does a great job conveying the facts. This is not a story, it is a compilation of available data on the Netsilik describing how they lived.
