How would you capture winter's crispness, spring's softness, summer's freshness, and autumn's richness? In this inspiring title, poet Patricia Thomas imagines each season rendered in a different art medium.Pen and ink, with spots of color, capture winter's mood, while pastel chalks make spring flowers bloom into life. The see-through hues of watercolors celebrate summer's warmth, while vibrant oils perfectly paint fall's majestic scenes. Artist Craig Orback takes up the poem's challenge in his marvelous illustrations, using each of the mediums described.Just as the seasons move seamlessly into one another, so too do the art styles blend together, then emerge in full splendor, and blend again as the next season approaches.
Every April as National Poetry Month is celebrated, I try to read more poetry. This year I discovered this book. Someone actually read it aloud to us in a creativity workshop (for adults). The language is so descriptive and evocative that it is truly inspiring. The artwork just adds another phenomenal layer to this book. This would make a great gift to inspire any nature lover or any artist who uses words or color.

The colors and textures in the illustrations are so perfect to demonstrate for the preschool child. It helps to demonstrate to them what words cannot say. A wonderful addition to my library.

What a great concept for a children's book. It offers an introduction to some of the most beautiful aspects of life; the seasons(nature both urban and rural), poetry, and visual art. My favorite part of the book is the light and movement of the illustrations. I enjoyed studying the seperate techniques, each with their own character (like the seasons). Love it.

This picture book is like a good marriage: a great partnership. The text and the illustrations are both are complete and poetic in their own right. Yet when joined together, the new whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This book is a must-see for anyone who wants their child to appreciate the magnificence of nature and its cycles.
