The Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service annually compiles, analyzes, and reports canvass data of pulpmills across the United States. In the Eastern United States, pulpmill censuses are conducted internally by the FIA programs of the Northern and Southern Research Stations. In the Western United States pulpwood data is compiled, analyzed, and reported by the University of Montana, Bureau of Business and Economic Research, through agreements with the FIA programs of the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Northwest Research Stations.
