A good intro to iMacs

This is a good book to help people get off the ground with their new iMac computers, especialy if you'r new to Macintosh. It explains most of the functions and applications that come with iMacs, and give step by step explantions on such things like using the internet, Appleworks, and the other new applications. There are also diagrams to help explain your new iMax. The only draw back is that though there is a large trouble shooting section, it is very broad, and can't cover everything. It does cover basic problems, and gives you info on where to find more help.Overall this is a very helpful book, and will get you started on your iMac adventures

Well written, easy to read and informative.

I bought "My iMac" as an introduction to the iMac hardware and the book succeed in providing that--making getting into the case and upgrading sound doable. But there's more! Overall the book is well written and gives usable basic information on a number of topics including setup, moving files from another Mac to your iMac, iMovie, and trouble shooting. I was impressed by a follow along "project" using AppleWorks that the authors use to have the reader "draw" an iMac. Also in the chapter on Web page building and HTML "Gore et al' encourage the novice builder to begin thinking in terms of what use to be called a structure chart--good idea. Included along the way (each chapter) is a useful glossary of terms. If you are intimidated by the thickness of Todd Stauffer's "How to do Everything with your iMac" (by the way don't be) or want a brief hardware hands on intro before delving deeper this is a good book.

I purchased the first edition of "My iMac" and found it useful even though it was no longer fully applicable to the 2nd generation of iMac computers. With the appearance of a 3rd generation of iMacs in the summer of 2000 and with OS X on the near horizon, this 2nd edition, released Dec. 16, 2000, is definitely the one and only book worth owning. Not only is it the most current, but the writing style has become more accessible and consumer-oriented than the first. The language is somewhere in between the reassuring, nurturing approach of Robin Williams' "My Little iMac" and the hip, irreverent style of David Pogue's "Dummy" books. It's clearly organized and could be used as a tutorial if the reader wishes; it's lively without thinking too highly of its humor. The team of authors speak as a single voice and provide some history of the iMac as well as possible future directions while at the same time being eminently practical.
