In 1927, a crime of passion occurred in a magnificent seaside mansion in a small eastern Connecticut town. Although, as a community, it might never have achieved the same name recognition as the others, nor enjoyed their longevity, there were a few large and luxurious homes owned by wealthy families.

For many years, this house was occupied by only one person, the widowed owner. Since her departure, the structure has stood unoccupied for some thirty-plus years. Yet a trust has paid the property taxes and the wages of a caretaker all these years. As a condition of the caretaker's employment, he cares for the grounds and exterior of the house but is forbidden to ever enter it.
