A delightful book about experiencing Christmas through a child's eyes

Featuring a main character, "Mr. Finnegan", based on legendary celebrity Dick Van Dyke, Mr. Finnegan's Giving Chest is a Christmas-themed picturebook about Maggie, a young girl who enjoys bullying others, even during the Christmas season. She unexpectedly meets the mysterious Mr. Finnegan, a toymaker who looks after the Giving Chest. The Giving Chest disburses gifts; its purpose is not to reward oneself, but rather to help others. Mr. Finnegan sends Maggie on an seemingly simple errand with the chest, and in the process, she learns more about holiday cheer and begins to feel the warmth of Christmas spirit. A delightful book about experiencing Christmas through a child's eyes, striking illustrated with smoothly rendered, three-dimensional digital art. Mr. Finegan's Giving Chest has a fair amount of text for a picturebook; an accompanying audio CD offers a read-aloud performance by Dick Van Dyke himself.

Magical

For awhile, I was afraid this book wouldn't make it to our house by Christmas, but it came in the nick of time. The illustrations are perfect, the story is lovely. The bonus CD of Dick Van Dyke reading the story, makes it special.

Worth the money!

While a little more expensive than some Christmas books, it's well worth it. The illustrations are VERY unique, reminicent of Polar Express. Have not listened to the CD of Van Dyke yet, but even without it the book is a nice addition to our Christmas collection.

What a great book!

I've always loved Dick Van Dyke and in this book, as the toymaker Mr. Finnegan, he's even more endearing. This is a great book! I've shared it with my family and they all loved it, with tears in their eyes. It lives and breathes the true meaning of giving and helps a little girl better understand Christmas. I also love the artwork...very cool in 3D! And I've already listened to the CD in the back many times...the story is narrated in classic Dick Van Dyke style! This is a Christmas book my family will read for years to come.

Watch out....This is the next Polar Express!!

What a moving story.. Dick Van Dyke is just wonderful! Loved him as Burt and 40 years later he is still just as talented (there is a CD of the story that comes with the book that he reads) And what a great story! The magic of Christmas lives all year round, no matter how old you are. As beautiful and warm as Polar Express. The details in the images are as fun as the story. An A+ addition to anyones Christmas-Children's book collection.
