For most pastors and church staff members, gone are the days of serving at the same church for twenty or thirty years. What's more, the landscape of pastoral hiring has changed, with the advent of more sophisticated search committees, the Internet, and professional search firms. But the fine art of changing churches or moving to a new career isn't something most of us learned in seminary.Whether you are searching for your first position or are a seasoned veteran wrestling with if, when, and how to move on, Moving On, Moving Forward will help you navigate the ins and outs of the ministry employment maze. Based on research with nearly 200 pastors who themselves have gone through transitions in ministry, this book uniquely addresses the needs of people in ministry. It deals with the crucial and sometimes painful emotional and familial issues involved in ministry transition. And it is immensely practical and informed by many real-life examples. Topics covered include dealing with search committees, writing a letter of resignation, preparing a resume, negotiating compensation, and more. Includes charts and worksheets.
Great for ministers at all stages of "starting over"

Mick and Michael have done a great job in putting together a very practical guide for all pastors and ministers who are looking at a new ministry location. While the main target for this book is current pastors and ministers in transition, I could see a seminary student benefiting from every chapter in this book as he/she prepares for that first ministry experience as well. I could see this book being used by field educators and placement offices in most evangelical seminaries. The questions that the authors ask and the resources that are provided are excellent. It is a nice "one stop" resource for the "job search" side of ministry placement.
DON'T PASS THIS UP!! (to my fellow pastors and ministry workers in the trenches!)

This book is a much needed resource for pastors and all those in vocational ministry! I am presently transitioning out of a ministry and this resource is helping me navigate the ins and outs of my transition. I never got this in seminary! This book is helping me navigate things like: preparing a resume, networking, negotiating compensation (I was very uneasy about this topic and it was great to get wisdom on it), dealing with search committees, writing letters of resignation, how to leave a church on good terms, settling into a new community etc. I love it and keep going back to it when I reach different stages of my transition process. In this day and age this is a resource that none of my collegues should be without. It will serve you for many years down the road because for most of us transition is inevitable and you want a resource that will walk you through this with maximum efficiency. What you will spend as opposed to what you will gain is immeasurable. GRAB ONE!!
