This book is a collection of traditional fairy tales that have been turned upside down in a very fun way. All have monsters in them - friendly monsters - and I love how the author made much more sense (in my way of thinking) of the stories. For instance, in her version, the prince doesn't want to marry the beautiful, fussy princess who can feel a pea through a pile of mattresses, he'd rather marry Griselda because she's "sturdy"! I just LOVE IT. My son loved this book as well, and never tired of reading it.
Tales with a Twist

This book contains three different stories, each a retelling of a traditional fairy tale with a twist. As a parent, I particularly enjoyed the first story, Peas. My own daughter is quite athletic, so I really appreciated Thugmond's ideals for a princess. As a teacher I feel this book would be particularly helpful for comparing the original versions of these fairy tales and these version, providing contrasting perspectives and story elements.
