MODERN MILITARY AIRCRAFT is another in "The Story of Flight" series that introduces younger readers to all aspects of aviation history. Like others in the series, it is an informative, nicely-illustrated and balanced introduction that readers 9-12 should enjoy. The MODERN MILITARY AIRCRAFT title is a bit of a misnomer. The volume covers military a/c from 1950s to the early 2000s. It is divided into chapters on the Korean War, Cold War, interceptors, Vietnam War, Gulf War, transports, pilotless a/c, etc. Aircraft and helos from various countries are illustrated. Information is clearly presented and illustrated with artwork, photographs and combat scenes. The quality of the artwork varies but some of it is quite good...and eye-catching. All in all, MODERN MILITARY AIRCRAFT is an entertaining, appealing introduction to the subject. Recommended for all junior birdmen.
