Beautiful Sylvia Gabriel has more cause than most to despise the Game of Kings. Chess has been the ruination of her life ending her engagement, filching her fortune and reducing her to poor relation.... This description may be from another edition of this product.
flaws with character..um nice characters with human traits

I really enjoyed this story. It had a fun and interesting variety of characters and an intruging but not too tangled storyline. Sylvia is a smart and loving young woman, whose guardian hid her dowry so she wouldn't marry a fortune hunter. She is likable and considerate but not overly perfect. David is a nice guy, not a total rake but a bit wild. He makes a bet that he will only marry a woman who can beat him at chess. The misunderstandings are a fluid part of the story without feeling contrived. A secret assignation in the garden...to sneak her much younger cousin cake! Hidden treasue, a riddle, Beau Brummel on the prowl. A fun, engaging and well planned out story! I will definately read it again. Rita Boucher is fast becoming a favorite author of mine!
