In 1947 Allie Fortune is the only female PI in New York City, but she has a mystery of her own: her fiancé disappeared in the war. When there's a knock on her office door at four in the morning, Allie suspects trouble. She discovers an international mystery that puts her own life in danger. Allie is partnered up with an attractive, single agent who would be perfect for her under other circumstances-if only she knew whether her fiancé was still alive.
A good novel written in the "Film Noir" genre, about New York's only female private eye.
This is the first book in this series, but it's too bad that the author wasn't able to finish the series. Only two were published, so I would only recommend reading the first one since the second book is left on a cliffhanger. This one sets up a secondary storyline, but the main story is resolved by the end, so you can read this one without being left hanging too much!
