Millard Fillmore (1800 - 1874) was Vice-President under Zachary Taylor and assumed the Presidency in 1850 after Taylor's death in office. Prior to becoming President, Fillmore served as the Comptroller of New York as well as a Member of the U. S. House of Representatives.
