Trying to pick out from his assortment of bad guys, sociopaths, and punks the one who's trying to kill the judge is pure entertainment, as only Elmore Leonard, with his ear for the sound and eye for the sight of lowlife, can provide. Maximum Bob

Another of Leonard's fast paced, witty and charming mysteries accompanied by a cast of charcters who mix, at times, like oil and water. Nevertheless a wonderful read and funny as all get out!

Maximum Leonard

Crisp, punchy dialogue -- twists in plot that will keep you guessing -- sharply drawn fascinating characters -- and a gator! This is Elmore Leonard at his best. In case you are curious, the title refers to a judge whose proclivity is for giving the maximum sentence allowed by law. Highly recommend this book.

Maximum Read

I read this book because I knew Leonard was a master of pacing and I wanted a refresher course. I wasn't expecting the tapestry of characters, the elegant choreography of the plot, the inevitability of both the violence and the redemption at the end. This is sophisticated writing that rocks so well on the page you don't notice how fine it is. If you want to know how to write, study Leonard and Maximum Bob.
