Gotta tell ya', I'm a little surprised this book hasn't been talked about a bit more. It is referred by Rick Johson ("Lie of the Tithe"). Though I question Rick's writing aptitude, Matthew 24 is a fine read indeed. I'm not a premier eschatologist, but I believe that Mr. Paher is setting forth the doctrine known as "Partial Preterism." I ordered this book after diving into the Left Behind series and the Tim Lahaye study bible. So at first I questioned the premise of this entire book. But after further study on Jesus did at the cross, this book and the theories it promotes must be taken seriously in the prophetic debate. I think the author forms adequate arguments. It makes sense that all the old testament prophecies have already been fulfilled literally during the old covenant. Also, Jesus finished the prophecies of the old testament at the cross, and made the old covenant obsolete. Jesus does indeed speak judgment to his own generation, ... and after reading the details set forth in this book concerning the fall of Jerusalem in 70 AD, it's apparent that when Jesus says "this generation will not pass until all these things take place" indeeed a good portion of 'prophecy' that book authors today say will still take place --- have already taken place in that generation of Jesus Christ. This is a point where current authors like Dave Hunt and Tim Lahaye really get tripped up. Is today's Israel the same one spoken of through prophecy in the Bible? Or is today's Israel a cult-nation that's non-prophetic in nature? Why don't the early church fathers, or anybody up until the 20th century, teach that an earthly nation that promotes Judaism must exist in the land of Israel before the return of Jesus Christ? How come Hal Lindsey can make millions on a book entitled "88 reasons Jesus will be back in 1988" and not be labeled a false prophet and a heretic? How come Christians view today's Jewish religion in higher regard than their own faith in Jesus? How come the biblical generation of 40 years has long passed since today's Israel has been in existence, and yet still today's prophecy 'experts' hold that Israel is a time clock for the events of the book of Revelation? If the Holy Spirit and the church leave, how are saints to come to salvation in the tribulation? This book will make you think, but more importantly come to the realization that Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life; no one comes to the father except through Him.
