Love John MacArthur

Got this as a gift for my Dad - he has the whole set. Can't really go wrong with anything John MacArthur writes.

Great Bible Commentary

MacArthur provides thorough Scriptural commentary throughout this book. MacArthur's commentaries are mainly expository. Meaning, he takes scripture and explains it with other scripture. His expository style, however, is easy to read and understand. He does digress into other scripture or theological topics at times, but I believe he does this so anyone reading this commentary would be able to understand the other scriptural passages that he references. I would highly recommend The MacArthur New Testament Commentary Series to anyone looking for an in-depth Biblical explanation of Scripture.

Best Work from a Conservative, Dispensational Perspective

Good solid hermeneutics and clear presentation make this an ideal volume for the pastor, student, or serious layperson. MacArthur is not only an excellent Bible teacher, but he writes simply for popular use, yet nothing is water-down. This is a most thorough work, useful in preparing sermons, lessons, or personal growth. MacArthur interprets from a moderate dispensational viewpoint and seems to follow obejctive principle of interpretation. He brings in a generous amount of cultural and background information, as well as other Bible texts. I suggest you purchase the entire Matthew set. There is probably none finer.
