I used this book with my most recent trip to Singapore and Malaysia. The good: lots of wonderful, well written history and cultural bits. The restaurant suggestions and hotel suggestions were all accurate and on the money. I'd say some of the prices were a bit out of date, but the book was published a couple of years ago, so no big surprise. The main downside I'd say is the maps. They're good maps, but somehow, getting to them is difficult. For example, the Singapore maps were scattered all over the place, and hard to get to when I switched neighborhoods. I could have used more and more detailed maps of the various islands as well. I'd also say some of the suggestions were a bit off, at least to my tastes. Penang and Langkawi were not directly comparable, for example. The language guide could have been a little bigger as well. None the less, directly comparing this to the Lonely Planet offering: there is no comparison; Footprint beats LP down like a redheaded stepchild. Really, LP has a defacto monopoly on travel books to many parts of the world. This is tragic, as many of their books are inexcusably bad. For Singapore and Malaysia, this is the go-to book for certain.
