A great novel and thriller about love and redemption

This 1968 novel is, at once, a witty story about the attempts of a variety of lawyers, working more or less in concert, to find out what happened to a Jewish businessman's money deposited in a Swiss bank in 1947; a love story; a story about middle-aged crisis; and a story about the Holocaust. It's funny, it moves as a good story should move, it's suspenseful, it's masterfully plotted, and it's great writing. This book is a little jewel which deserves attention and repays many rereadings.
