Shannon Guymon excels at making her main characters people you wish you knew in real life. Sophie and Sam are a couple you want to see succeed from the moment they lay eyes on each other. Shannon gives great ideas, themes and images but centers too much emotion on the words a lot of the time. Sometimes it would nice to just let her characters say nothing. Or at least a lot less. If you want a happy, clean and quick read for the summer, this is your bet. There is plenty to nit-pick (dialouge, situations, over-the-top dramatics, characters who fall in and out of love impossibly fast and an ending that wraps up entirely too quickly and perfectly, leaving you feeling like you just got shut out of the party -- all Guymon signitures it seems) but if you take it for what it is: light, fast fiction, it's easier to see past the faults and enjoy. One of the better LDS chick-lits out there.
