From those famous ducklings to Homer Price's delicious donuts, generations of children have grown up delighting in the timeless stories of Robert McCloskey. Here, for the first time, all of his published works--Make Way for Ducklings, Blueberries for Sal, Lentil, Time of Wonder, One Morning in Maine, Burt Dow, Deep-Water Man, Homer Price and Centerburg Tales--are brought together. With biographical information and photographs, and an introduction by renowned critic Leonard Marcus that outlines McCloskey's career and his unforgettable contribution to children's literature, this collection is an in-depth look at the life and work of an extraordinary children's book legend.
I first read Make Way for McCloskey after checking it out at the library and my toddlers loved the story so much that I decided to add it to our home library. It is a beautiful story about a duck family searching for a home. I stumbled across this collection after also searching for Blueberries for Sal which was not available at my local library. I love that this collection includes both of these classic stories and more! I received this new so it is in perfect condition and the price is great!
A Treasure Trove

This book has been one of the best discoveries. Many are familiar with Make Way for Ducklings, and maybe even Blueberries for Sal, but this has gems like Lentil and the stories involving Homer Price. Quirky tales or observant tales or ones that just endear. The illustrations are both delightful and detailed. As a mom of little kids, I willingly read these over and over again. And this is the collection I think to send any friends with children, hoping they'll get as many hours of joy out of it as we've had. Highly recommend.
A great book!

Why all the minimal ratings here??? I was OVERJOYED to find this wonderful collection of McCloskey's works!!! I grew up in New England, so the images and stories of Mcloskey are very close to my heart-and this edition is something I'm proud to have as part of my library. It was the only one I personally found that included Make Way For Ducklings, Lentil, Blueberries For Sal, One Morning in Maine, Burt Dow, Deep Water Man and my personal favorite, "Time of Wonder" (All of these stories are complete as well as Doghnuts from Homer Price and Ever So Much More from The Canterburg Tales) I remembered the imagery so vividly from Time of Wonder but could not remember the title until I found this book-so I was thrilled to unearth this treasure! This book is printed on beautiful coffee-table/art book quality pages with a wonderful introduction, a great epilogue about the life of Robert McCloskey, real photos, as well as early sketches that would later influence his stories. The publishers for this edition did make a choice to transfer what would have printed on 2 pages in the indidividual childrens books to 1 page in this edition. Unlike a previous review, I don't believe that the images or type are too "crammed" but commend the publishers for being able to deliver all of Robert McCloskey's most well known stories PLUS lesser known treasures all in ONE VOLUME FOR A VERY REASONABLE PRICE. Of Course, you can find individual paperback copies of his more popular stories like One Morning in Maine and Blueberries For Sal-but (at least to my knowledge) your going to be pressed to find something this comprehensive in a hardback edition you can be proud to have on your library shelf for life!!! Make no mistake...This is a FANTASTIC EDITION YOU CAN TREASURE FOREVER FOLKS!!!
