On Tobar, magic is dying, and the living Stones are magic. One by one, they are ceasing to exist. Something is causing their magic to die, and not even the wisest of the Stones know why. Jaida discovers that not all people possess magic, and they are killing their people with the gift. Soon they will destroy all magic on Tobar, even the Stones.

She finds Llari, a young girl with powerful magic who can hear Jaida's voice. But can Jaida trust her? The elder Stones say no. Jaida has no other choice. They must work together to save magic.
